IC 1287 is a reflection nebula that surrounds SAO 161569, a 5.7 magnitude star in the constellation Scutum.   NGC 6649 is an open star cluster shown in the lower left side of the image and the large red emission nebula that occupies the right side of the image is part of Sh2-55. Dark Nebula B 97 can just barely be seen edging into the upper left corner of the frame.  West is up on this image.

  • Weather:  Light winds, Temperature range 57F to 55F (midnight to 3:00am)

  • Sky Conditions:  Clear with above average transparency. 

  • SQM-L: 20.44 start - 20.60 finish

  • Optics:  TeleVue NP101is Refractor with focal reducer (432mm f4.3)

  • Filter:  Hutech IDAS-LPS (Light Pollution Suppression)

  • Mount:  AstroPhysics AP900GTO

  • Guiding:  Orion SSAG @5 seconds

  • Camera:  Canon T1i (500d) Hap Griffin modified - Baader UV/IR

  • Exposure:  1x 4 min, 1 x 6min, 9 x 8min @ ISO800 - 82 minutes total exposure

  • Calibration Frames:  Master Dark & Bias 60F

  • Processing:  Images Plus 4.50b, PS CS6, GradientXTerminator, NIK filter tools 

  • Comments:  LM 5.5 easy  & Milky Way good overhead with minimal light pollution scatter on night after CF passage.
